Dolomites: UNESCO World Heritage Site

Six charming tourist places in the heart of the Dolomites, whose "capital" is Agordo (611 metres): it is the lower part of the Agordino, a vast area that includes Taibon Agordino, Voltago Agordino, Gosaldo, Rivamonte Agordino and La Valle Agordina, (the last three being part of the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites).
In the shadow of the majestic peaks of the Agner, the Tamer-San Sebastiano chain and the Imperia, Agordo has the recognisable appearance of a mountain village as well as being an art town, rich with history, culture and architectural curiosities. Amongst these there is the old Villa Crotta-de Manzoni (the northernmost of the Veneto villas) with a magnificent park and beautiful statues flanking the square; and the 19th century parish church, work of Segusini, where precious works by Palma the younger, Zanchi and Brustolon are conserved. Once a well-known mining area, Agordo is nowadays a summer tourist destination for walkers and also has a strong mountaineering tradition: in fact it can boast the first CAI section of the Eastern Alps, founded in 1868. The sporting infrastructures that are found in the area are numerous: two sports halls, an ice rink, a shooting range for rifles, pistols and archery, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and an area for bocce (bowls).
In the winter it is possible to practise alpine skiing, cross country skiing and ski touring in the neighbouring areas; Voltago, La Valle, Taibon and Gosaldo. Agordo and surroundings are also ideal departure points for the large skiing areas of Civetta, Valle def Biois and the Marmolada.
