The thriving and flourishing Euganean area (Euganean Hills) extends through the south-western part of the province of Padua and is characterised by the changing green colour of its territory. The area (Euganean Hills) is characterised by the fact that it is inhabited by the Euganeans, a population whose origins go far back in time; it is, in fact, believed that they may be connected with the companions of Hercules. The territory was easy to inhabit and to cultivate, so much so in fact that the natives of the Veneto region arrived and settled there. The latter, thus, came into contact with the Euganean culture which was, amongst other things, in many ways similar to their own. Indeed, today it is reasonable to think of the Veneto people as being the true protagonist of the development of the Euganean land (Euganean Hills). The Roman epoch was a positive one in which the territory was put to good use, including the "spa" aspects which bring to mind illustrious names due to the healing treatments which are still known today. The Roman epoch and the subsequent epochs left much historical evidence in the Euganea area (Euganean Hills).The invasions of the Lombards (602 A.D.) the occupations on the part of the Estensi, the Carraresi, the Venetians, the Hapsburgs and the Savoy, all made a deep impression on the urban and territorial development. The commercial dealings and the need to defend the wealth and political powers led to the construction of villas and castles throughout the whole territory. Today, this area, where past traditions are still preserved, has a considerable importance as far as tourism is concerned. Euganean Hills has a large number of castles, monasteries and churches which make it both interesting and somewhat curious, even though not all areas are perhaps used to their full advantage.
