Sommacampagna rises up close to the morainic hills surrounding Lake Garda, at only a few dozen kilometres from the lake shore. The climate here is pleasant, thanks to the proximity of the lake. The name of the town derives directly from its original name in Latin, Summacampania (higher countryside). As well as the main town itself, Sommacampagna also encompasses the country wards of Custoza (the ancient Custodia) and Caselle (Caselle d'Erbe).
